Here I sit - at home after our crazy busy weekend in the cities.
Friday after I finished working I came home to shower, pack me, pack Ruby, and load up/gas up the Honda. It was a pretty busy afternoon for me, but I was definitely anxious to get on the road (and grab some supper) :)
We got to town a little after 9, as usual, and visited for a while while we unpacked and hit the hay. The next day was going to be busy!
And then it was Saturday! We were up early to get ready and get to Babies R Us at opening time - 9:30. I figured the more time I had there in peace and quiet the better, and I definitely had a good idea. By the time we left, it was a zoo!
Registering was pretty difficult. I had my lists, I had done my research on big ticket items, I had my notes, but I still somehow felt swallowed in the sea of baby stuff. How do you know what you need and want? I know we only need the basics, but it's hard to determine the bare essentials from all the fluff fluff stuff they have on the shelves. Fortunately, the lady who set us up was very fast, knowledgeable, and friendly which was so nice. She recommended where we start and where finish which was a great piece of advice I followed. Once Mark and I got into the swing of things, it started to go pretty smoothly. Just something about watching your husband try and assemble a car seat into a stroller makes you smile! :) I had about 5 aisles left and we looked at the time - holy cow! We had plans to meet my family in Burnsville for lunch since we hadn't seen them since Christmas and we needed to leave in 10 minutes. We got our speed shoes on, made some quick decisions, turned in our scanner, received our little goody bag, and we were off! We were halfway finished!
Lunch was delicious - and fun! I was surprised to see my dad there, I figured he would have been busy in the shop. But everybody made it, we enjoyed talking about baby stuff, fun stuff, future spring/holiday plans, etc. all over a great lunch. Mark and I definitely needed the mental break for sure!
After lunch, everyone dispersed into their separate ways. And Mark and I were off to finished the second half of our registry at Target. We found a nice big Target right by the restaurant in Burnsville so there we went!
Target was definitely easier - we were basically needed more clothing items, bottles, sippy cups, books, etc. There wasn't too many people there and we found everything we wanted. Of course, clothes were a little bit harder so anything that could be gender neutral we picked up and scanned for sure! After looking at a print out of it all, a few clothing items say "baby boy" on the title on the registry, but hopefully people don't look too much into that. Who cares if the stars on the onesies are blue? Seems gender neutral enough for me!
After registering we went back to Mark's parents where me and Mark basically crashed. We just watched some TV and Deb made dinner. After we ate, we watched more TV, we played some cards, and we were exhausted! So was Ruby - she must have had a fun day with her Grandma and Grandpa because she just crashed!
Sunday Deb and I did some shopping and I ended up finding some pretty decent curtains for the nursery for a GREAT price. I was stoked about it! So while we got our coffees and found some good sales, the boys were at the auto show in Minneapolis. They had a nice time too - and Mark has over 100 pictures of cars to prove it! When they returned we ate a quick lunch, packed up, and hit the road. We were ready to be home.
The nursery will be put together this week - I'll have to take a few before, during, and after pictures because after we got home and essentially "dumped" the rest of the nursery/baby stuff we bought over the weekend or Deb had for us, it is officially a cluster of crap sitting around and driving me insane. I definitely want it to look presentable - it will be bare - but presentable since Roman and Anna are coming to Fargo next weekend and they haven't seen ANY part of the nursery yet :)
Baby things feel like they're coming closer! We have plans for the nursery, registries are finished, showers are being planned, and the kicks and jabs I feel every day just help me remember it's all for a GREAT cause!
But since I have my dinners planned for the week, groceries bought and put away, I do believe it's a snack time for me! Besides making pasta salad and dinner, my evening plans are going to be minimal since the finale of The Bachelor is on tonight! Yay junk TV! Accompanied with some ice cream I would imagine :)

Obsessions
I have a few new addictions since the last post:

That about sums up my life right now! I think Ruby knows that something is changing. She always wants to sniff the nursery furniture or be on my lap. When she's sleeping on my lap, every once in awhile the babe will kick and she'll feel it and jump. It's pretty cute. I hope she takes to the babe well and doesn't become jealous! I also have been feeling sooo awful when we leave her at home. Ask Mark about the emotional drop off of her at the groomer on Saturday morning. I was being a definite hormonal pregnant lady...but hey, I'm allowed, right?
The nursery colors with the bedding has just melted my heart. Mark did such a great job painting and I can tell that when he's putting in new batteries in the smoke detector, or replacing the outlets with safety outlets, he is really trying to take care of his little one. It's nice that it's time to realize how lucky and blessed we are to be able to have this baby, and to start getting ready for the baby to come! We found a few additions to the nursery this weekend, but in all the business of life, they haven't even been put away. Pics to follow - promise promise :) This weekend we will be traveling to the cities to register for babe! People seem to be mad that it's taken me this long, but I had to make sure I knew what I wanted! It will be nice to get out of town for the weekend, have the registries started and completed, and meet my family for lunch. I haven't seen my parents since Christmas, so I'm pretty stoked about it!
Yogurt Rocks. I went crazy in Target this weekend. Their Archer Farms Fat Free Yogurts were on sale. So I bought 2 of every flavor that they had. Yum! And let me just say, the Apple Cobbler flavor is to die for! I wonder what this babe will end up being - given my huge cravings for yogurt and fresh fruits and juice!
Cake Boss. Enough said. Although watching the cake, chocolate, vanilla, icing, sugar, at 24 weeks pregnant isn't the best idea - I don't care! The things they do are incredible. I admire not only the baking part, but the small tedious work of the gals who work in the bakery. Sculpting teacups and saucers out of modeling chocolate doesn't sound like my dream job!
Crosswords! It takes my mind off of having to pee, registering, the blizzard last week which turned into snow we were used to having, and my need for chocolate. I did almost 60 puzzles while Mark was gone last week. It was a great way to take my mind off of everything and I think it will continue to be until the babe comes. Of course, I'll have to switch out the crosswords for more information on labor in about 8 weeks, but until then you can bet I'll be solving those little clues!
But for this afternoon, Cake Boss is on in the background, Ruby is napping next to me, 2 cups of yogurt sit on the coffee table, and I have a pencil poking through my ponytail ready to write in my crosswords. And I'm completely okay with this!

Minor Chaos
Well the last few weeks were definitely busy with everyone staying here. Emily left with Bella and Ace on Saturday morning so there are a few less people and barkers in the house now :) It's nice and quiet!
While Michael was taking Emily down to my parents, Mark and I painted the nursery! And for the very first time, things definitely feel real. The paint is perfect and Mark did a fantastic job making sure it was pretty perfect in there! Only one snafoo, we ran out of blue paint on the last wall, but it wasn't anything a quick trip to Menards couldn't fix. Of course, since we had to empty the nursery to paint, the camera got lost in the shuffle. I did take a few photos on my phone, so at least the transition was documented somewhere! Once the paint it all dry, in a few weeks, and things all get put away, camera pics will be up for sure.
I had another doctor's appointment last week and all is well with momma and babe :) I left feeling settled and excited, like I always do after hearing the babe's heartbeat. Strong and in the 130s. People keep making their gender guesses based on the heartbeat, so I always make sure to tell family what it was and listen to their reasons! I also left with a prescription for Zantac - thank goodness - and I finally feel fantastic. But I'm also thankful that the only pretty bad pregnancy symptom I've had so far is heartburn. That I can deal with - for sure.
I also finally faced my fear and had an eye exam done yesterday. Terrifying. But I am glad to say it was not as bad as I had envisioned. I survived! But I also had to get glasses...something I wasn't too excited about. On the bright side, I don't need to wear them all the time. They're just reading/computer/driving glasses whenever I feel necessary. Mark kept looking at me weird yesterday saying "I'm not used to seeing you in glasses." I just keep hoping there was a compliment in there somewhere ;)
A big blizzard is on it's way so I am stoked to be home from work for the day and ready to brave the storm! I am not very happy that Mark had to travel last minute for work to South Dakota, where the storm is really bad, for the rest of the week. It's hard enough missing him for 5 days, but you had scary weather here and there and I'm definitely pretty anxious. Michael is here to help, but of course working late so I hope the power stays on and my lovely neighbor helps snow blow our driveway so I can make it to work tomorrow. Or maybe not...;)
All in all the mood in the Nightingale house is good, momma is good, dad is good, & most importantly - babe is good :)

Changes
The Nightingale household has taken on a few changes - hence the lack of post updates.
Emily and Michael have decided to move back to the cities and be by our parents. Turns out they needed a place to stay during the transition. So in the matter of a few days we doubled the amount of humans and tripled the amount of dogs in our home. It's very barky in here!
I've discovered a new addiction - How I Met Your Mother on Netflix. I always told myself I would love this show, but wanted a way to watch it from the beginning. It's like the Netflix Gods heard me and POOF! New entertainment for Kellie!
After moving Emily and Michael on Saturday, I thought for SURE Mark would just want to hang out on Sunday. Turns out, he's gotten bit by the "nesting bug" too and really wanted to do a project. So off to Menard's we were - again. We ended up putting a few extra storage shelves in our utility room for extra storage, (something this house lacks) and redid the closet in the nursery. Before the inside of the closet looked like this:
The shelves that were inside only reached about halfway across. This room is pretty small and seemed like such a waste of space. We just purchased longer and deeper shelves and then repositioned them so the bottom two shelves will be able to have hanger rods underneath doubling the amount of clothes we will be able to hang inside.
We also put a 6 hole cubby system on the bottom. Perfect for toys, books, and anything else the kiddo might want to access easily.
After pictures will be up sometime this week - of course it will be before the paint job, but you'll get the idea. Mark has one more project he will be working on this even so I haven't busted out the camera yet ;)
There's also something else that might be changing - a HUGE MIGHT! It would potentially make our life very busy for the next few months, but we'll see!
So for now, I"ll finish my caffeine free Diet Coke and watch TV while - GASP - all THREE dogs are currently napping :)

Memorable Day!
So starting on Friday we've just had all kinds of things going on! Mark's parents decided to come to Fargo for the weekend to spend some time with us which was nice - it's hard to be the ones to drive all the time, especially with gas prices the way that they are. We shopped, played cards, ate, chatted, and just hung out. While we got a lot done, it still managed to feel like a pretty relaxed weekend.
Deb and I did our usual shopping rounds Saturday morning, with Caribou in hand of course, and added one more stop. Since my awesome sister-in-law is an amazing sewer, she graciously offered to sew up some things for the nursery for me so we could save MEGA bucks. (Shannon you're the best!) Since the nursery bedding had come in earlier that week, we took one of the blankies with us and off to Joann Fabrics we went. I had a list of all my projects and measurements in tow and we got shopping! At first I was getting discourage, couldn't find much of the colors I wanted. But the more we dug in, the better it got. I actually had to turn some away because I didn't have enough projects! After triple checking my lists, quadruple checking my measurements, and 10 different patterns and solids of fabrics later, we left the store with big smiles and happy pocket books. (Thanks Deb) :) Once I get the projects returned to me, photos will be posted of course. But here's a sneak peek of what we were able to purchase:
I can't wait to see all my visions come together!
The dress for the nursery also came in earlier that week. It matches perfectly - I think we did a good job of picking it out :)
All in all I'm feeling so awesome about the progress we made in the babe's room. It at least has a place to sleep and the weight I feel off my shoulders is incredible. Now there's not much left to do but think about what we would like to register for, and start getting paint and decoration inspriation!
But of course, after the busy week and weekend, today finally came! We were so anxious for it to get here...the big ultrasound for baby! We aren't finding out the sex of our baby and while most people find it annoying, we feel very blessed to be able to have a healthy baby so far that why ruin the surprise?
The ultrasound took a very long time, had a few complications, (I had a contraction during it, a big bladder because lab wasn't ready for me beforehand like they had said, and baby just wasn't cooperating much), but the techs got all the measurements they needed. We are happy to announce that baby Nightingale is healthy and right on target, if not ahead of schedule!
The ultrasound techs were wonderful, kept the gender a secret, and apologized for having to have kept me so long and pushing so hard on my tummy. It wouldn't be a Nightingale if it wasn't giving those ladies a hard time that's for sure :) It gave us a few giggles, standing on it's head for awhile and all, but there's nothing more precious than being able to see 10 fingers and 10 toes on 2 arms and 2 legs with a very strong heartbeat.
We are happy parents-to-be and know this is a day the both of us will never forget. Not just because of our amazing ultrasound, but because Mark took me to A&W afterwards...Yum!

And so it begins!
Today was a very exciting one for me - and I think Mark too, although he hides it a bit more than I do.
About three weeks ago Mark and I stumbled into a baby boutique here in Fargo named Wizard of Kids. I really needed some nursery inspiration and designer names because I had exhausted Google the day we found out we were expecting :) While we were there, I just walked from display to display hoping to have my heart melt. And it semi happened! I fell in love with a nursery set and was tempted to purchase, but nervous I was jumping in too fast. Instead, we wrote down the designer and name, sneaked a picture on our cells, and left. When I got home, I jumped on the designer website, and my heart really melted - into a giant puddle!
The designer is Glenna Jean and her work is absolutely breathtaking. There is not a single nursery she designed that I didn't just love. I found the nursery set we had previously seen at the boutique, and it looked fantastic. But of course on the way to stumbling upon that certain design, I found "the one." I knew this was it more than I knew what wedding gown to purchase - it's to die for. It was a huge relief to find something that wasn't jungle, safari, monkey, or just yellow for gender neutral nursery themes. Because while some people find it silly we aren't going to be told the sex of the baby halfway through the pregnancy, I call it a welcomed challenge!
We debated about ordering the bedding for about a day, and after doing tons of research online to find the best price, we decided to go for it. And today, I got a wonderful text from Mark saying there was a huge box from Amazon at his work with his name on it! I grinned from ear to ear for the rest of the day!
He waited to open it until he got it home, and we love it more in person than we did in photos online. So without further suspense, the bedding is called "Finley" by Glenna Jean and it's absolute perfection for our little one.

| I wasn't going to assemble the crib so early, but Mark got a bit sick and tired of me being sick and tired on the couch for a few days, so he really wanted to do a project. He began setting up the crib, and while I didn't think we should he seemed so excited to be helping it was too cute to stop. The crib is by Savanna and called Abby. We got it on super sale from JCPenney. They have a great selection, and once a year do a crib bonanza. Originally a $699 crib for $199. Score! |

| The crib went together with minimal problems. I think they make them a TON easier to assemble now than they used to. The mobile for the crib came first. In true Nightingale form, we bet on what song it would play so we had to assemble right away to listen! |

| The mobile is adorable - the teddies are to die for. Of course, this already has to be attached to the crib because Ruby thinks the teddy bears are her toys. Oofta I think we are going to have our hands full with her when baby comes. |

| Here's the quilt - we love the array of colors and patterns to fit any gender. If it turns out to be a boy, more blues and greens will be added into the room. If we get a girl, we'll incorporate more peaches and apricots. |

So that was our exciting day! Ruby's nose is going crazy at all the blankets, and I'm excited to start picking a few things out that I want. Next will be other fabrics to send to my awesome sister-in-law in Las Vegas who is a queen at the sewing machine, unlike me. She will be sewing me all kinds of goodies that I didn't feel like splurging on from the designer. Anxious to see if the finished product matches what I see in my mind right now.
But for the rest of the evening, I believe I will stay sucked into The Bachelor, some cards with the hubby, and relaxing at home with my wonderful family!

Catching Up!
So I thought that I would be so great at keeping a blog - turns out I made it, wrote one entry, and just about every night afterwards said "I should go and write another post."
I made the blog in hopes of keeping a pregnancy journal. That's right folks - we are expecting Baby Nightingale on June 23, 2010. We knew we were pregnant when I made the blog originally, but it was so early that I decided I would wait a little while before we announced.
So here we are, 18 weeks and 1 day pregnant and I feel like we got a pretty good handle on things! Both of our families and all of our friends are being so supportive that it was really overwhelming at first. I waited until I was about 16 weeks along before I started making some choices on nursery gear, birthing classes, etc. Once I started, I couldn't stop! We have done so many things around the house, and quite frankly they needed to be done anyways.
We purchased a separate "kitchen cabinet" if you will from Fleet Farm. It's doing a MARVELOUS job and holding all of Ruby's items, small kitchen appliances, liquor, and all of the other things my kitchen cabinets weren't doing a good job of holding. I learned my lesson about that - carefully map out cabinet and drawer space BEFORE offering on a house. Once the kitchen was cleared out and better organized (I actually have a few empty cabinets - I can't believe it) we were onto the office/nursery.
Thank goodness we put new carpet in the upstairs back in September. We found a steal at Menards for carpet I adored. So we learned how to measure for carpet, purchase, tear up the old, and install the new all on our own. The sense of accomplishment Mark felt after that huge accomplishment was so nice to see - he definitely deserved it! So while we had to empty out the office to install the new carpet, we decided that was a good time to start getting it "baby friendly." We were trying to start our family, and figured it would be easiest to do it while we had to move everything anyways. Of course it almost got all emptied out, but after 4 months, it slowly accrued more overstock and we had to do it again! Things got thrown away, files got filed appropriately, and my OCD took over. Things went into matching storage totes, labeled, and organized. After the totes were finished, we made room for them in our storage space under the stairs. Funny how one project rolls into another, and then another etc. By the end of the day, the office was empty and could be called the empty nursery, storage under the stairs was cleaned out, and the garage got the treatment too. It was a long day, but felt we got so much accomplished. And it finally felt like we actually had space to put a baby and all the junk they come with :)
We've done a few more things, but I have them being shipped to me this week so I'll update with pics as soon I get them. Super excited to see how everything turns out - especially if it matches what I see in my head!!
That's all for now kids - Mark will be watching football, Rubers has finally calmed down a bit, and I believe a nap is in my future!
